Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Purpose & Need:
Project Aperture: Frame the Future brings together Barron Collier’s existing Yearbook, Journalism, Art, and Activities programs to create a unified, student-led photography initiative. While our school has some basic cameras, they lack the capability for low-light, fast-action, and professional-quality images. Students deserve the tools to tell their own story — and this project fills that gap.
Learning Goal:
Students will learn composition, exposure, and storytelling through photography, developing critical-thinking and communication skills that directly support visual literacy, digital media, and college-career readiness standards.

What will be done with my students

Students from multiple programs will receive guided instruction in photography basics, equipment care, and digital workflow. They will then photograph real BCHS events — sports, fine arts, academic highlights, and school spirit activities.
The project will also intentionally recruit creative “outlier” students who may not participate in traditional clubs, providing them with hands-on, meaningful ways to contribute to the school community.
This initiative enhances classroom learning, supports student publications, and strengthens Cougar pride through authentic storytelling.

Benefits to my students

What will improve/change:
• Students gain tangible career and creative skills.
• BCHS gains consistent, student-produced visual media that reflects its entire student body.
• More students, including those not typically involved, feel connected to school life.
How outcomes will be measured:
• Number of students trained and events covered.
• Photo publication metrics (social media, yearbook pages).
• End-of-year reflection surveys and a public Frame the Future gallery event.

Budget Narrative

Funds will purchase one Nikon D780 DSLR camera body. This camera will be shared across programs and used daily by trained students. Its speed and full-frame capability will dramatically improve event coverage and provide hands-on learning that matches industry standards.
