What will be done with my students
This project will provide a variety of musical instruments and resources such as hand drums, recorders, microphones, and wood sticks designed for sensory-friendly use by students with autism. Activities will include guided music sessions where students explore rhythm, melody, and sound to enhance sensory integration and communication. The project meets the unique sensory and communication needs of students with autism by offering an alternative, engaging learning medium that supports their developmental goals.
Benefits to my students
Because of this project, students with autism will experience enhanced sensory engagement, improved communication skills, and greater emotional expression through music. They will develop better focus and self-regulation during classroom activities, leading to increased participation and confidence. The use of musical instruments will also foster social interaction and collaboration among peers, creating a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. Outcomes will be measured through a combination of observational data, teacher assessments, and student progress toward individualized education program (IEP) goals. Specifically, we will track increases in communication attempts, duration of focused engagement during music activities, and instances of positive social interactions.
Budget Narrative
These grant funds will directly support the acquisition of appropriate musical instruments that are essential for creating an inclusive, effective, and therapeutic music education environment for students with autism by enhancing accessibility, encouraging engagement and motivation, and ensuring sustainable growth within the music program.
