Goal
The purpose of this project is to promote friendship and reading. It addresses the need to help little ones make connections through literature. The goal would be to invite a friend to sit with you and discuss a book together.

What will be done with my students
We have bookshelves full of wonderful stories to read but my students pick up a book, go to a spot on the rug and look at the book by themselves. I would like to build community and friendship through reading. If students could invite a friend to sit with them on a couch and read together it would promote literacy skills and unity. When friends share a book, they tend to spend more time discussing the book together than they would looking at a book alone.
Benefits to my students
My students will become more compassionate people and better readers through community reading. I will be able to measure this by seeing students interact in positive ways and seeing their love of books increase. I can monitor the students and hear their discussions.
Budget Narrative
I will use the grant to purchase a sofa for my students to read together on to build unity and literacy.
