Goal
The purpose of this project is to increase student engagement in speech and language therapy in the school settings. Student's with articulation, fluency, and language impairments require hands-on activities, manipulatives, and tasks to encourage them to work hard on their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals. Overall, this project impacts students with IEPs directly and allows them to better their communication skills in both the academic and social settings.

What will be done with my students
Research has proven and continues to indicate that children learn best through play and shared book reading, as well as through repetition and engagement in hands-on activities. By donating to this project, students will be provided ample opportunities to expand their language skills through play-based and literacy heavy language therapy sessions.
When curating this project, each item was selected with a language goal and target in mind. These materials are highly engaging, motivating, and fun, which will create therapy sessions students want to participate in. Specific materials, such as story-telling kits and companions allow the story to come to life in front of the student and make the book hands-on via the included manipulatives. Play-based materials, such as the various Learning Resource toys, PlayDoh, and animal figurines, create increased opportunities for students to explore their environment and solidify their knowledge of themed vocabulary.
Benefits to my students
As students begin to expand their own desire to learn and engage, growth will occur in their speech and language skills. They will become highly motivated to engage in speech-language therapy and become better communicators. Together, we can help support these young students in our community in meeting their IEP goals and improving their overall communication skills.
Budget Narrative
Any funds granted to this project will directly impact over 60 students on my Speech-Language therapy caseload. Funds will be utilized to purchase the listed items, such as books, book companions, manipulatives, toys, games, and a few classroom materials. Many students do not have the opportunity to engage in shared-book reading or imaginative play at home. With these funds, my IEP students will be given copious opportunities to expand their speech and language skills through literacy-based and play-based therapy.
