Goal
The overall purpose of this project is to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for Eden Park Elementary students with disabilities by providing access to essential sensory items. These items will address diverse sensory needs, helping students regulate their emotions, improve focus, and reduce anxiety, which are critical needs in our classroom.
This project addresses the learning goal of enhancing student engagement and participation in academic activities. By providing appropriate sensory tools, our students will be better able to manage sensory input, leading to improved attention, reduced disruptive behaviors, and increased readiness to learn, thus connecting to grade-level competencies and standards. This initiative also aligns with our school-wide goal of fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment for all students.

What will be done with my students
This project will involve the integration of a dedicated "sensory corner" within the classroom, equipped with a variety of sensory items chosen to meet the diverse needs of our students with disabilities. Activities will include guided exploration of the sensory items, with teachers modeling appropriate use and encouraging independent engagement. Students will have access to items such as fidget toys, textured balls, noise-canceling headphones, Bing bags, and visual timers.
This project will meet the needs of our students by providing immediate access to tools that can help them self-regulate and manage sensory overload or under-stimulation, which are common challenges for students with disabilities. This direct support will lead to a more productive and less stressful learning experience for individual students and the classroom as a whole. The intentional use of these items will be integrated into daily routines and transitions, fostering a calmer and more focused learning environment. The potential for permanent integration of these sensory supports into the classroom structure is high, as they address ongoing student needs.
Benefits to my students
As a result of this project, we anticipate several improvements and changes for our students:
• Students will demonstrate increased on-task behavior and focus during academic tasks.
• There will be a reduction in sensory-seeking or sensory-avoiding disruptive behaviors.
• Students will exhibit improved emotional regulation and reduced instances of anxiety or frustration.
• Students will develop better self-awareness of their sensory needs and strategies for self-regulation.
We will measure these outcomes through a combination of observations, behavior tracking logs, and informal student feedback. Teacher observations will focus on student engagement during activities, instances of self-regulation using sensory tools, and overall classroom participation. Behavior logs will document the frequency and duration of disruptive behaviors before and after the implementation of the sensory supports. If this request is funded, then our students will be able to accomplish/achieve greater independence in managing their sensory needs, leading to enhanced academic engagement and overall well-being.
Budget Narrative
The total requested amount is $940. These items maximize the use of funds by providing a range of options to address diverse sensory profiles and are directly aligned with the expected benefits of improved student regulation and engagement. The number of students impacted is significant, as these items will be available to all elementary students with disabilities in the classroom, potentially benefiting over 30 students directly and creating a more supportive environment for the entire class.
