What will be done with my students

In this project, each student in my third-grade class will create a self-portrait to be featured on a custom class t-shirt produced by Classroom Faces, a company that specializes in collaborative student artwork shirts. Students will reflect on what makes them unique, fostering self-confidence and identity formation. Their portraits will be compiled and printed on shirts for each student.

Many of my students benefit from structured community-building activities and positive identity reinforcement. A class shirt with each child’s self-portrait provides a tangible, daily reminder that they are a valued part of our classroom community. For students who may face challenges with confidence, peer relationships, or transitions throughout the year, this shirt helps reinforce connection and inclusion.

Benefits to my students

Students will feel more connected to their classmates, fostering a stronger, more inclusive classroom community. Creating and wearing a self-portrait allows students to see themselves as important contributors to our classroom. A unified shirt can be worn on field trips, special days, and school events, promoting team spirit and classroom pride!

Budget Narrative

The grant funds will be used specifically to purchase one custom self-portrait class shirt for each student in my third-grade class through the vendor Classroom Faces. These shirts will feature each child’s hand-drawn self-portrait, combined into a collaborative classroom design that celebrates individuality and unity. The total cost includes the following: Shirt production – Custom-printed t-shirts for each student, featuring their unique self-portrait along with their classmates’ portraits; Shipping and handling – Delivery of completed shirts to the school for distribution to students; Design processing – The cost for Classroom Faces to compile and format the student artwork into the final shirt design. A grant for the purchase of Classroom Faces self-portrait shirts will not only provide a keepsake for each student but also cultivate a deeper sense of belonging, community, and confidence that will positively impact their academic and social development throughout the school year.
