Goal
The purpose of this project is to acquire a variety of math manipulatives that will provide hands-on learning experiences for students across multiple grade levels. Many students struggle to understand abstract math concepts through traditional instruction alone. Math manipulatives offer a tangible, engaging way to develop a concrete understanding of foundational math skills. This project addresses the need for differentiated and inclusive instruction that supports visual, kinesthetic, and tactile learners.
This project aims to improve students’ conceptual understanding, number sense, and problem-solving abilities. It supports academic outcomes aligned with grade-level math standards such as place value, operations, fractions, geometry, and measurement. The manipulatives will also promote critical thinking, collaboration, and math discourse.
Category
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
What will be done with my students
The project involves the purchase and integration of math manipulatives including base-ten blocks, fraction tiles, counters, pattern blocks, number lines, geometric solids, and math mats. These materials will be used during direct instruction, small group work, math centers, and intervention sessions. Students will engage in activities such as building numbers, solving word problems with physical models, exploring patterns and symmetry, and demonstrating understanding through hands-on modeling.
This project meets the needs of diverse learners by making math accessible and engaging. Students will be able to physically interact with concepts that are often difficult to visualize. For students who are English Language Learners, have IEPs, or need extra support, manipulatives provide equitable access to instruction. These tools will benefit not only current students but future cohorts as well, allowing for long-term impact.
Benefits to my students
Students will gain a stronger understanding of math concepts, leading to increased confidence, participation, and academic performance. They will be better equipped to solve problems, explain their thinking, and make connections between concrete and abstract mathematical representations. The manipulatives will also foster a more positive attitude toward math by making learning interactive and fun.
Outcomes will be measured through formative assessments, student work samples, math journals, and teacher observations. Improvements in unit assessments and benchmark math scores will be monitored. Additionally, student engagement and confidence will be evaluated through classroom surveys and self-reflections.
Budget Narrative
Grant funds will be used to purchase a variety of durable, high-quality math manipulatives from reputable educational suppliers. A detailed list of requested items and costs will be included in the budget section. All items will be stored in clearly labeled containers for easy access and shared use across grade levels when possible. The manipulatives will directly benefit approximately 120 students this year and continue to serve students in future years.
