Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

By purchasing membership for two highly reputable high school science-focused organizations, I (and, in turn, my students and others in the school) will gain the benefit of well-vetted and usable resources. Science teachers often must "create their own materials" for instruction due to a lack of quality, adaptable resources that supplement what is provided in the curriculum and pacing guides. By providing innovative and engaging class activities that are FLDOE learning goal-focused, students will be more successful in learning science and communicating evidence of their learning.

What will be done with my students

I currently teach Forensic Science, Chemistry, and Mathematics. I have also taught Physics. I am always looking for additional teaching strategies or supplementary activities to supplement the district-provided materials or textbooks. Having access to the archives also allows me to stockpile resources for future years and for colleagues and their science classes.

Benefits to my students

Students will be more engaged because of the variety of "tried and tested" lessons and activities. Making classes fun and exciting while learning will increase attendance and semester grades.
Outcomes will be measured by student participation in laboratory activities, collaborative groupwork projects, and a student survey at the end of each quarter.
Outcomes will be measured by class attendance averages and semester grades in comparison to grade level equivalents.

Budget Narrative

Membership to the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) includes a bimonthly magazine subscription to "Science Teacher" (for 9-12 teachers), access to digital archives of exemplary lessons and teaching strategies.
Membership to American Chemical Society (ACS) includes a monthly magazine subscription to "Chem Matters" (for 9-12 chemistry teachers), access to digital archives of exemplary lessons and teaching strategies. Specific support for AP science classes and chemical safety in the school. I am the chemical safety officer for the school and would appreciate access to timely resources regarding current issues for schools. Relevant articles can be shared with other faculty as I read each article.
