What will be done with my students

Project Description:
Our special education unit serves a diverse group of students with unique learning needs, many of whom require individualized supports to access their education meaningfully. Our team uses evidence-based practices rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other specialized instructional methods to foster student growth. Key to our approach are reinforcements and sensory tools that help us create a structured, motivating, and responsive learning environment.
This project requests funding for:
Motivating reinforcements such as small toys, fidget items, and visual aids that encourage on-task behavior, skill acquisition, and participation.

Sensory tools like seating tools, calming areas, textured items, noise-reducing headphones, and chewable accessories that support emotional regulation and sensory integration needs.

Edible reinforcements and snacks which are critical for students who respond best to edible motivators, especially during skill-building tasks in communication, academic routines, and functional life skill activities such as requesting, learning patience, cleaning, and following multi-step directions.

Edibles are used carefully and strategically to reinforce skill development in areas like requesting (using AAC devices, PECS, or verbal speech), and following instructions. They also play a role in life skills instruction such as practicing hygiene routines around food, and engaging in social mealtime interactions.

Benefits to my students

With access to these requested items our students will:
Improve attention and participation through individualized motivation systems.
Strengthen communication by using reinforcers to encourage verbal and non-verbal language output.
Gain functional academic skills through hands-on and interest-based activities.
Practice life skills like learning patience, turn-taking, and requesting—all essential for independence.
Learn to regulate sensory needs through sensory tools and calming activities.
