Goal

My goal for the students is for them to meet or excel the grade level mathematical standards by immersing themselves in hands-on math materials and stations. Measurement, geometry and decimals are three of the hardest 5th grade math standards. There is a need for 5th grade students to improve in these three areas, and these tools will help them to be engaged with the content, be immersed in it, and the project will help them to reach success at the content.

What will be done with my students

The materials for the projects will enable students to be hands-on lessons geared towards the 5th grade math standards. The materials will be a permanent integration for future classes. Students will be able to manipulate the content, and understand the content first hand via their manipulations. Using these materials students will be able to work independently, with a partner, or with a group. They will be able to utilize the materials along with the instruction, to gain a better understand and reach grade level standards in these difficult areas.  

 

Benefits to my students

Measurement, geometry and decimals are some of the lowest scoring math standards. If this project gets funded, I expect students to be able to reach the math standards. Students will be able to use the hands on learning aids to problem solve and to acquire accuracy, as well as will be able to work with their peers through the journey. I will be able to measure success by viewing the accuracy while the students are completing tasks, as well as I will be able to view the report of scores on quizzes based off of the standards.  

 

Budget Narrative

The budget of $382.90 will go towards three different math standards. The materials for these standards will be enough for 76 students to be able to use. These materials are not disposable and will be able to be used in future years.
