Goal

The goal of this grant is to give my math students a daily opportunity to reinforce math skills in an engaging and challenging format. 5th grade math skills are a challenge to master due to the difficulty of the content, and additional resources can help the students to grasp the content due to the ability of this program to be used not only at school but at home, and the ability to provide endless practice problems, as well as examples and videos to help master the content. The students will increase their skills and gain confidence in their abilities.

What will be done with my students

This online platform will be used to help build the students’ skills towards mastery of mathematical standards, through guided and independent practice. It has thousands of skill-based activities that can be individualized per student, so that any gifted students can receive challenges and any students struggling with math content can be provided reinforcement. Students will learn from their immediate feedback, and I will be able to access reports to examine student data. Students can also track their progress! Students also enjoy the reward part of the program as well as the leaderboard. Not only that, but this program has different accommodations that a teacher can schedule for specific students. It can be switched to different languages which will help our English as a Second Language students. To also accommodate students who need extra support, it has a read aloud function, extended time function, and the ability to go up or down the math standards in different grade levels, based on need.

 

 

Benefits to my students

If this project is funded, my students will have mathematical success by meeting and excelling at the 5th grade math standards. There are many benefits to students if I receive funding for this program. One benefit is that students are able to work on any skill that they know they need reinforced. This helps to gear them towards performing on grade level. At the same time, students who already know the content can receive alternative lessons to challenge them. Another benefit is that while working, students can check their answers and receive immediate feedback, to help them progress further. An additional benefit is that if a student is struggling, there are written explanations as to how to do the problem, along with a video as to how to do the problem. To go along with that, there is an option to have "live classroom" and when that is chosen, I get to see the students working live time and can give teacher feedback. A third benefit is that students are motivated to learn and complete assignments on the platform due to the various modes, the possibility of a leaderboard, and the program rewards they can receive. A benefit to teachers is that it provides data rich reports to help find the holes that are needed to be filled. These reports will allow the teachers to know who has met the math standards, exceeded the math standards, or are still struggling to meet the math standards and this will help to guide instruction.  

 

Budget Narrative

The price of $1,180.00 is for a year subscription to be able to provide this mathematical online platform for 3 classes, for a total of about 76 students, if not more. This will give students access to 5th grade mathematical content (as well as lower or upper grades) to help support mastery of mathematical expectations.
