Goal
The goal of this project is to provide students with the opportunity to do hand-on labs in class by securing the necessary supplies. This grant with also provide all students—regardless of financial background—with the opportunity to fully participate in our school-wide science fair and engage in meaningful, hands-on science learning throughout the year. Many students in our community face economic challenges that make it difficult to afford materials for experiments, especially those that require multiple trials and the creation of professional-quality display boards. By covering the cost of supplies, this project removes barriers to participation, allowing more students to explore scientific inquiry, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and present their work with confidence. It also supports ongoing classroom experiments, reinforcing core science concepts and aligning with academic standards while promoting STEM engagement, creativity, and equity.

What will be done with my students
This project is about making sure my students have the supplies they need to actually do science—not just read about it. A lot of my kids can’t afford materials for science fair projects or even basic lab activities in class, and I’m constantly stretching my own budget trying to fill in the gaps. With this grant, I’ll be able to buy materials for students who want to participate in the school science fair but don’t have the resources to do it on their own—things like tri-fold boards, containers, timers, or experiment supplies. But it’s not just about the science fair. This money will also help me buy hands-on lab materials for regular classroom experiments throughout the year so that every student, regardless of their situation, can engage with the content in a meaningful, hands-on way. It’s about equity, engagement, and giving all students a real chance to experience science the way it should be taught.
Benefits to my students
As a result of this project, more students will be able to fully participate in the science fair and engage in hands-on experiments throughout the year, leading to increased confidence, curiosity, and interest in science. Students who might otherwise sit out due to lack of resources will now be able to plan and carry out their own investigations, practice the scientific method, and present their findings to others. In the classroom, access to lab materials will allow for more interactive lessons, better understanding of science concepts, and improved engagement. These outcomes will be measured through increased student participation in the science fair, higher completion rates of experiments and lab reports, classroom observations, and student feedback on their science learning experiences.
Budget Narrative
The money from this grant will be used to buy science fair and classroom lab supplies for students who need them. This includes tri-fold display boards, basic experiment materials (like measuring tools, thermometers, and timers), and other hands-on science items needed for projects and classroom labs. Many students can’t afford these on their own, so this funding will make sure everyone has what they need to participate. It will also help me stock the classroom with materials for science experiments throughout the year, keeping lessons hands-on and engaging for all students.
