What will be done with my students

Students will observe the different phases of the life cycle of butterflies, lady bugs and tadpoles. Students will be able to make daily observations and predictions as to what will happen. A life cycle represents a series of changes that an organism undergoes, from birth to death. Insects and frogs will be released at the end of the project. Students will set up and maintain the habitats for the organisms. This project will help students engage in science instruction and take ownership of their learning. It will help build a strong classroom community while making real world connections.

Benefits to my students

Learning about life cycles is an important way to develop children's understanding of the world and help them understand and deal with weighty concepts such as life, death and birth. Students will gain a clear understanding of the stages of metamorphosis and insect life cycles. It will improve their ability to make observations, record data, and communicate scientific information. Students will improve collaborations skills and develop responsibility in managing the habitats.

Budget Narrative

The money will be spent on buying tadpoles, butterfly larvae, lady bug larvae, food and habitats for the organisms.
