Goal
To enhance reading comprehension and fluency among fifth grade students by increasing their average reading assessment scores by achieving proficiency or making gains on the state ELA F.A.S.T assessment.
What will be done with my students
Students will engage with selected books and utilize manipulatives to enhance their comprehension and critical thinking skills in reading. This multi-sensory approach aligns with the Florida B.E.S.T state reading standards. Additionally, the method supports the Science of Reading framework which highlights the importance of integrating various cognitive processes to develop proficient reading skills and close learning gaps.
Benefits to my students
Engaging with a variety of texts enhances vocabulary, comprehension and critical thinking skills laying a strong foundation for our future learners. It also fosters a love for reading during these formative academic years.
Budget Narrative
All books purchased will be purchased with the idea of putting a book in a student's hand during small group. The manipulatives chosen will be for the teacher and student to help encourage them to immerse themselves in the text. This will not only benefit the 225 fifth graders the currents school year, but it will also be used by teachers and students for years to come.
