Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Our goal for the outdoor sensory items is to add new resources to help meet the needs of our diverse learners. The primary team at BES works together to lay a strong foundation of rigorous learning. These items will help provide a unique, and much needed experience since over half of our kindergartens come to us with out any preschool experience. We notice each year a big deficit in fine motor development with our students. We have created and purchased many items to be used in class to help support the increase in fine motor skills and we believe these outdoor items will come along and enhance our efforts in this growing need with our students.

Goal

Our goal for the outdoor sensory items is to add new resources to help meet the needs of our diverse learners. The primary team at BES works together to lay a strong foundation of rigorous learning. What will be done with my students

Students will have the opportunity during recess and other times through out the day to engage in a fun play based learning experience where they will be able to explore, problem solve, work together and create all while building important fine motor muscles and skills. Many times the students will be invited to explore these areas and create as they wish, but teachers will have the opportunity to add items and some more specific uses to incorporate themes through out the year to enhance and go along with what is being taught academically in the classroom as well.

Benefits to my students

We are located in a rural area with over 50% of our students on free and reduced lunch. Our rural location does not have any local preschool locations so families would have to travel for students to have those opportunities and experiences. These items will benefit our students by giving them fine motor opportunities many have missed out on in a preschool setting. We believe the development of these fine motor skills and muscles will transfer over to their school work in their writing as well as their ability to use manipulatives in the classroom setting. These items will also benefit our students socially as they will have opportunities to work together to problem solve and share/ take turns.
