Goal

To be able to transform my classroom environment to a space where children feel welcomed, loved, and encouraged to make their own choices in their learning.  

What will be done with my students

If graciously granted, I will be using the money to buy flexible seating options, such as stools, bean bags, small desks, seating cushions, and chairs for students to have the option of choice in the fun learning environment of our classroom. 

Benefits to my students

Students feel empowered by having some type of choice and control over their learning environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with who they work with. It also allows students of all types of learning styles to change their location and positions as needed. Children at this age need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, which increases oxygen flow to the brain for learning! It also helps keep their young minds more alert and focused. Just as an adult, we like to be comfortable all day long. So I believe an uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student, so let's help them be comfortable and engaged in their learning! Finally, flexible seating makes learning FUN. They get to collaborate with their peers, communicate better, and also look forward to making choices of where they get to sit each and every day.  

Budget Narrative

The items listed above are some items that I researched on what I need to fund my engaging, student centered, learning environment. There are 18 seating options listed.
In using the stools, I can add them to a lower table on the ground for students to sit.
In using the beanbag chair and the "Nugget" I am able to give students with sensory learning to be more comfortable in a seat where they will be able to focus and do their best work.
In using the butterfly rocking chairs and the stackable stools, I am giving students at a regular height desk a more comfortable option to move and wiggle while learning.
And finally, the leaf floor seats give children a great option to work on the carpet in a comfortable chair with a clipboard.
