Join us in bringing the world into focus with SNAPSHOT, where every click captures not just an image but the untold stories of tomorrow. Empower young storytellers, one lens at a time! The goal of SNAPSHOT is to equip aspiring young photographers with DSLR cameras for our after-school journalism program, fostering a passion for storytelling. The impact will be measured through pre and post-program assessments, focusing on improved photography skills and a deeper understanding of journalistic principles. This straightforward initiative aligns seamlessly with our expected outcomes, aiming to empower the next generation of storytellers through accessible tools and hands-on experiences, fostering confidence and creativity in expressing their unique perspectives. Your support will play a pivotal role in turning this vision into a reality, opening doors for these budding photojournalists to capture and share meaningful stories.  

What will be done with my students

I will organize the news and journalism of our school. I will for a journalism club and I will need a camera for our club. This will be beneficial for young middle schoolers who are aiming to become journalists! SNAPSHOT is a transformative project designed to empower aspiring young photographers through an after-school journalism program. Over the course of a semester, participants will be provided with DSLR cameras to explore the art and principles of visual storytelling. The curriculum integrates hands-on photography workshops, guest speaker sessions, and real-world assignments, allowing students to apply their skills in documenting local stories. The planned timeline encompasses one semester, with the potential for continuation based on its success. This project directly aligns with the learning curriculum by enhancing students' creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills, offering a unique avenue for self-expression. Beyond academic benefits, SNAPSHOT seeks to improve overall achievement by instilling confidence, fostering a sense of purpose, and providing a platform for educational enrichment through the lens of photojournalism. 

Benefits to my students

The expected outcome of the SNAPSHOT project is to empower a cohort of aspiring photojournalists with essential DSLR cameras, facilitating a transformative educational experience. By the project's conclusion, we anticipate a measurable improvement in participants' photography skills, reflected in their ability to capture and communicate compelling visual narratives. The grant will directly impact the lives of [100] students, fostering a newfound passion for journalism and storytelling. Beyond immediate gains, the reusable nature of the equipment ensures a lasting impact, benefitting future cohorts of students. We aim to measure success through quantitative data, such as increased test scores and grades, indicative of enhanced academic engagement and creative expression aligned with our overarching goal of empowering the next generation of storytellers.

The proposed budget for the SNAPSHOT project includes the purchase of Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera Bundle, priced at $600, providing students with essential equipment for hands-on learning and creative expression. Additionally, $150 has been allocated for 10 sets of Campus Journalists Uniforms and Campaign Paraphernalias to foster a sense of identity and unity among participants. The purchase of two SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC Memory Cards at $42 each ensures ample storage capacity for capturing and storing high-quality images. To prioritize safety and convenience, an Altura Photo Camera Neck Strap, priced at $25, will be provided for each participant. The detailed cost breakdown summarizes to $150 for uniforms, $92 for memory cards, and $625 for camera equipment and accessories, resulting in a total budget of $867. This budget ensures that every aspect of the project is adequately funded, contributing to the overall success of SNAPSHOT in empowering the next generation of storytellers.
