Goal
The goal of this project is to be able to have an umbrella at each of our outdoor learning stations around campus. The umbrellas will provide shade while classes are working or eating lunch at these new tables. There is a need for 10, 9 ft umbrellas where there is currently no shade.
What will be done with my students
Our PTA has worked hard to purchase tables for around our campus. There are a total of four separate locations (with two more planned) around campus for our elementary and middle school students. These locations allow teachers to take their classes outside while students are doing classwork or for lunch. It now allows for a great outdoor classroom space for all our learners and provides a different environment for our teachers to be in when they do what they do best!
The umbrellas will provide shade to students during the hottest part of the day so that the tables can be utilized during the whole school day. Studies show that being outside benefits an individuals' physical, mental, and emotional health from the fresh air and sun.
Benefits to my students
The expected outcome is that teachers will be inclined to utilize the tables for learning and during lunch time because they will have umbrellas. The ten umbrellas will provide the needed shade from the Florida sun. In addition, students who learn in different settings can feel success as they learn in various areas of the school.
Budget Narrative
The grant will be used to purchase 10 EliteShade USA 10-year non-fading patio umbrellas (9 ft diameter). Umbrellas are $180.00 each, bringing the total to $1800.
