Goal

The goal of this project is to put visually appealing (lights up), cordless for mobility, microphones, and quality headphones in the hands of students working toward the goal of grade level proficiency in reading. By providing a desirable piece of technology, students will be motivated to use it and be engaged in the prescribed online program for Intensive Reading.  

What will be done with my students

As students in Intensive Reading have previously scored a Level 1 on the state reading test, they have been identified as struggling readers. They currently work with an online program that requires them to listen to instruction, sounds of words, and to record themselves practicing their pronunciations of these sounds and words. The more time on task students can be with this program, leads to more successful readers. Sixth grade is a pivotal year. If we can provide a quality "gaming type" headphone, students will be more excited to engage. Because the student headphones are wireless, students can move around with the headphones and laptops.  

Benefits to my students

Students using the new gaming headphones will increase their weekly time on task as measured by the district's online program. Student lexile, reading, scores will increase when measured from beginning to ending of the school year.
