Goal

The goal of this grant is for every one of my students to grow to their absolute potential regarding mathematics this year. Multiplication fluency is the key to success in Fourth Grade. When a student can multiply factors 0-12 fluently, they will succeed in demonstrating mastery in dozens of benchmarks (standards) set by the state. 

What will be done with my students

This project benefits my students by accelerating the time they need to learn multiplication. Many students find multiplication fluency a daunting challenge. Each year, I witness students who are very strong in math fall way behind very quickly simply because they are still using Third Grade strategies to multiply (very time consuming). The frustration is extremely apparent during instruction, during testing and at home. One of the items I am requesting is a calming, stress relieving multiplication table fidget board. This ingenius item will speed up the learning process and free the students of the anxiety of memorizing a multiplication table or worse yet, not becoming fluent in multiplication at all this year. The students will take ownership of the materials requested as I have requested a separate storage bin and lables for each child. Along with the stress relieving multiplication fidget board, each child will have their own set of math manipulatives (focused on multiplication) and multiple sized 4 mil heavy duty clear storage bags for not only the manipulatives requested but for all their other manipultives as well. Lastly, the students will have their own individual set of color-coded flash cards where they can organize the cards by factors they've mastered, factors they are working on and finally, factors they need to learn. I want my students to be successful and I am certain that if this application is approved, they most certainly will live up to their utmost mathematical academic potential. They will not only be successful but they will have reached this success under the least amount of stress and anxiety and will prove to themselves they can accomplish anything they set their mind to. 

Benefits to my students

I expect a minimum of a year's worth of growth out of each child. In order to be successful in Fourth Grade, a student must know how to multiply single digit factors fluently. Once they can multiply fluently, learning double- and triple-digit multiplication and multiple digit division problems comes naturally. Learning how to multiply whole numbers by fractions will come naturally with practice as well. I expect each student to achieve their maximum potential score when tested by the state of FL this Spring. A score they will be very proud of achieving for years to come.
