Ippolito has opened the last two school years with 20+ instructional vacancies. We currently still have 17 instructional openings. The teacher shortage and lack of teacher retention with extreme turn-over at Ippolito continues to have a major negative impact on our students. Some students have never had a certified teacher. This school year we have been very lucky to have an amazing staff of resident educators and long-term subs from Kelly Services, and teachers from staffing agencies join our faculty. Even though staying after school, attending PD, etc. is not required for these staff members they still show up and give their all for our students without any compensation! The goal of this project is to provide small teacher incentives as a way to increase teacher retention and provide small tokens of gratitude for all of their hard work.

Goal

What will be done with my students

This project will benefit our students at Ippolito by increasing the retention rate of our teaching staff. Increasing our retention rate and decreasing our staff turn-over will provide consistent educators in front of our students everyday. If students have a consistent teacher they will be able to build a positive relationship. These positive relationships will allow for a safe learning environments. Students can focus on learning knowing their teachers is there to guide them along the way. In addition, we have an extreme level of students with multiple days of missing school. One of the contributing barriers for our students attending school on a regular basis is the lack of consistent teachers. Students are unable to build a relationship with a new teacher every day/week. Teachers are unable to notice the trend of students not attending school because they are only in that classroom for short amounts of time.  

 

Benefits to my students

These small teacher incentives will hopefully build positive staff morale, build a positive staff and school climate, show small tokens of gratitude from Ippolito, and decrease staff turn-over rates. This will in-turn provide a consistent teacher in front of our students everyday. More positive relationships will be built between teachers and students. Students attendance will increase due to the consistent teacher and newly formed positive relationships they have developed. Consistent teachers will be able to build better relationships with our families and provide additional supports/resources our families may need. 

 

Budget Narrative

You rock thank you notecards will be used to write individual thank you/ compliment messages to teachers and staff. Otterly Awesome tote bags will be filled with cookies, coke, and notepads to give to teachers/staff as a thank you for their hard work and dedication to our students.
