Goal

To bring a group of approximately 20 theatre students and chaperones to area elementary schools to perform an original interactive Dr. Seuss play for Kindergarten Students (and/or higher grade levels) for Literacy Week 2024; between January 22-26. 

 

What will be done with my students

My students will direct, stage, rehearse and perform the play, but will also be responsible for creating props and for organizing costumes as well.  

 

Benefits to my students

Besides teaching several Florida State Standards, (TH.68.F.3.1- Practice safe, legal, and responsible use of copyrighted, published plays to show respect for intellectual property and the playwright,TH.68.O.2.2 Explain how a performance would change if depicted in a different location, time, or culture,TH.68.S.2.1 Discuss the value of collaboration in theatre and work together to create a theatrical production,TH.68.O.2.4 Perform a scene or pantomime to demonstrate understanding of blocking and stage movement, TH.68.O.3.3Discuss the collaborative nature of theatre and work together to create a scene or play, respecting group members’ ideas and differences.) the activity will benefit the elementary students as well as they will see a live theatre performance, motivating them to seek out the arts and to keep reading their favorite Dr. Seuss stories.  

 

Budget Narrative

Approximately 1/2 of the budget is allocated for costume pieces and craft materials to make props. A minimal amount ($11.03) if for Alphabet Dr. Seuss sticker to give out to all of the kindergarten children present. THe rest is allocated for local bus transportation which usually costs from $500-$700 per day.
