Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Because we believe that "Kindness begins with me," we feel very strongly about empowering our Kindness Squad with tools that allow them to promote the Spirit of Kindness with other Timbercrest Tigers. This grant is all about empowering our “Kindness Squad” students to prove that Kindness starts with them!
Timbercrest Elementary Kindness Squad consists of 4th and 5th grade student leaders that demonstrate positive attitudes and choices around the school. These students have been selected by previous teachers that felt that they represented kindness, friendship, encouraging, and helpful qualities that promoted positivity at Timbercrest.
Each Friday morning, they greet our Timbercrest Tigers at Parent Pick-Up dancing and waving Spirit Sticks. They also look for ways to encourage other Timbercrest Tigers in their classes as well as on our school campus. Videos of our Kindness Squad doing “their thing” are shared on social media to share the experience with parents, families, and the community.
For our fourth year, we are looking for additional resources to help promote this program throughout the school and bring more Acts of Kindness to Timbercrest. We hope to not only encourage student leadership in our Kindness Squad, but to inspire others to be kind. Our Kindness Squad representatives have brainstormed these ideas to continue improving our Kindness Movement across the school and community. his project will reinforce all the SEL standards from the ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors for Students Success, on which the VCS SEL program is based.

What will be done with my students

Our Kindness Squad is always looking for additional ways to encourage other Timbercrest Tigers in their classes as well as on our school campus. These acts of kindness help support Social and Emotional Learning by handing out “Kindness” bracelets, buttons, stickers, and cards with motivational statements. Additionally, the Kindness Squad will use sidewalk chalk, posters, and other items to write words of encouragement and inspire Timbercrest Tigers and staff around campus. Our Kindness Squad meets monthly to create and decorate birthday cards to send to our troops all over the world. Each month, a “Special” bag of inspirational and motivational goodies is prepared to be delivered to one teacher from each grade level by the Kindness Squad.

Benefits to my students: We believe that additional layer celebrating “Acts of Kindness” will benefit all students at Timbercrest Elementary. Not only will our leaders spread kindness like confetti, but they will further their relationship-building within our Kindness Squad. Squad members will set goals based on acts of kindness they wish to celebrate and highlight each month. By learning more about empathy, students will use this knowledge to set an example for their peers. The students will strive to be role models within the school as they build relationships throughout all grade levels. Our goal is that one act of kindness will turn into another and will have a ripple effect throughout every class and area of our school. This creates an atmosphere of student leaders that inspires and motivates others to believe in themselves as well as encourage others! Our goal is to celebrate National Kindness Day on 11/13 by having our students hand out pencils to the entire school to help promote random acts of kindness.

The silicone bracelets are a new addition this year. These will be given out to inspire and encourage our Timbercrest Tigers. The bracelets have motivational reminders that are a visual reminder of kindness.
We are also wanting to use Cheerleading pom-poms since our home-made Spirit Sticks need to be replaced. The colors chosen (red, green, blue, and black) represent the 4 Houses of our PBIS system. Each week in our Parent Pick-up loop, the winning House’s flags are flying.
The other items purchased will be used to write motivational messages to encourage and inspire Timbercrest Tigers and staff around campus. Students will also hand out motivational cards to students they see performing any act of kindness.
