Goal

Will be a continuation of a positive productive implementation of mind, music, fine motor, and gross motor activities. As an art teacher at Sunrise Elementary for the first year here I am pleased to assist with physical activities on Wednesday weekly. Wednesday in the art room is a concept of utilizing head to toe movements with art and a twist of musical chairs. It has been highly effective for all age groups and additional supplies would thrill my rock star students. ` 

What will be done with my students

The art room is set up weekly with ten tables that are in the center of the room. Each table has a different type of fine motor activity. These can consist of sensory items, collaborative building, memory building, creative 3D elements, spatial recognition, and creative learning. There are also elements of depth perception, balance and cause and effect. A standard song of beats is played for 2 minutes as they walk around the tables in a circle clockwise. When the music stops, they all freeze. They are to sit at the closest chair and work with peers by accident and not by choice. Students are reminded prior to each week that not following safety procedures and rules will forfeit their fine motor 2-minute interaction. Classical music and cd exercise Instruction would like to be added to this routine.
Classical music would be introduced during the fine motor activities every two minutes. Classical music can enhance the brain’s functions and the nervous system. This music is known to correlate with a positive mood. The calming effect and lower beat integrated during the seated activities can become a learned trait of transition of focus.  

Benefits to my students

Music can make you stronger, build your immune system and assist in your communication skills. Gross motor activities can improve eye and hand coordination, peer planning, and locomotor skills. These activities will also enhance appreciation of working together with others regardless of personal differences. These materials will be used year after year to enhance and support all students and their physical fitness requirements. Help me to help Sunrise Students, HEAD to toe ….. Let’s Go!!

Budget Narrative

All items will be purchased on Amazon and utilized with age appropriate classrooms. All items will remain in the art room at Sunrise for weekly classes. The items will be rotated to work with current supplies and focus on various motor skills.
