Goal

To foster a sense of belonging and connection for students transitioning from elementary to middle school by implementing a teaming program, enabling them to feel a part of a supportive community of learners.

What will be done with my students

The primary goal is to create a sense of unity and belonging among the students within their grade levels. We will achieve this by organizing them into teams, each student with an advocate, and fostering consistency in expectations across classrooms. This approach aims to ease their transition from elementary to middle school and make them feel valued rather than lost in a large student body. The grant will be used to purchase items that promote team spirit and unity within these groups. Data has proven that district-wide the number of students proficient in all academic areas in 5th grade drops drastically in 6th grade, more than any other grade level. This is due to lack of connection and coming from a school where they were 1 student in a class of 22 to being 1 student in a class of 120. The teaming program provides the support needed to aid in the transition.

Benefits to my students

The long-term benefits of this approach are improved student engagement, academic performance, and overall well-being. These initiatives align with the goals of creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, especially during the crucial transition from elementary to middle school.
