Goal

The goal of "Keyboards for Kids" is to enhance the music education of the students at Vineyards Elementary through the use of piano keyboards as both a tool to supplement standard lessons as well as a unit for beginning piano playing skills.

What will be done with my students

Students will learn the basics of piano playing, this will include the following: learning the keys; finger numbers; music notation and note values; the note names for the treble and bass clefs. These concepts will be taught through the use of songs most children already know. Pieces will include, but not be limited to: Mary Had A Little Lamb; Ode To Joy; Hot Cross Buns; Jingle Bells; When the Saints Go Marching In; Frere Jacques; Alouette; Yankee Doodle and This Old Man. This piano instruction will be a supplemental unit that will be taught throughout the school year in addition to our regular curriculum.

In addition to learning a new instrument, the benefits for my students learning to play the piano are:

Budget Narrative

Line 1. The keyboards have 61 full size keys. The 13 requested will allow me to place one keyboard at each table in my room and have two students share each instrument.

Line 2. The keyboard stickers are labels for each key on the keyboard which provide a visual cue for the student with the letter name of the pitch, as well as a graphic of a little staff with a quarter note showing the placement of the pitch on the staff. I have only requested 7 packs of stickers because I have already received 6 packs from my PTO.

Line 3. The 13 headphone splitters will enable 2 students to use the keyboard simultaneously without disturbing the rest of the class.
