Goal

An instrument today keeps the mini maestros and sing-rays of Seacrest at PLAY! The goal of this grant is to provide preschool through fifth grade music students with access to instruments and tools that are proven to aid in musical proficiency.

What will be done with my students

The tools and instruments requested in this grant support music students in many long term ways and will bring new life to the music classroom! A set of over the ear headphones allow each student to plug into their own keyboards during practice time. This helps each individual hone in on the sound they are playing and be able to utilize the full practice time. A set of hand chimes will take the yearly handbell curriculum to a higher level. Chimes are a lot less delicate than brass hand bells, but accomplish the same goal, making them a durable and long term investment. Drum pads and sticks help preschool through fifth grade students with percussion skills that will set them up for success when it is time to move up to the middle school band and chorus group. Additional supply in recorders will accomplish the same goal. Lastly, introducing a walk-on keyboard to the music classroom will allow for students to begin piano proficiency at an earlier age as low as preschool. These specific tools will have longevity in the music room, and will not need replacing when properly cared for.

Benefits to my students

The items requested in this grant allow the current music curriculum to be expanded for all ages. These instruments help music students reach a higher level of musical proficiency in rhythm skills, note recognition, and application of proper technique. These tools will be used for preschool through fifth grade students, and will help them achieve easier and maximized practice time. The benefits will leave each student prepared to join an introductory band or chorus group once they are finished with their lower school studies.

Budget Narrative

Accounting for over half of this grant will be two sets of thirteen note hand chimes at five hundred dollars total. This set includes all natural and sharp notes so that any song can be played, and all students in class will have a chime to play on their own. Next, is fifteen pairs of kids over the ear headphones at ten dollars per unit. A supply of twenty soprano recorders at five dollars a piece will make up for another hundred dollars of the budget. Two identical electronic drum pad sets will cost fifty dollars per unit, totaling one hundred dollars. Finally, a walk-on interactive floor piano costs fifty dollars, rounding out the nine hundred dollar grant request. All contributions are greatly appreciated!
