Goal

This project's purpose is to create "Classroom Ready, Set, Go Bags," also known as Classroom Preparation and/or Emergency Bags. Every teacher in the school will be given a Go Bag containing emergency preparedness resources for both the teacher and the students. With the development of a school emergency bag, each teacher and classroom should be prepared to shelter-in-place or otherwise provide for the well-being of their kids. 

What will be done with my students

Emergencies and disasters can be frightening, but when there are steps, teachers can take to keep children safe before, during, and after a crisis is vital. Having these steps compiled in one bag can decrease stress levels for the teacher and students. These bags are adding another safety component to keep students safe and out of harm's way, which is the number one priority. 

Benefits to my students

With this project funded, the entire school will be and feel prepared in the event of an emergency. The Go Bags at Seminole Heights Elementary will encourage a streamlined and transparent approach for all teachers and staff members during a crisis event. These backpacks are expected to also help substitute teachers feel prepared and understand the school's protocols, as well as have supplies to feel confident during crisis circumstances.

This project is intended to busy and distract children during a crisis situation in which emotions and/or anxiety levels are high. In the case of a lockdown, the desired outcome is to provide stress reduction for the classroom. 

Budget Narrative

I have selected items from Amazon, as the site is user friendly and offered an array selection of materials all needed for the Ready, Set, Go Bags.

To accommodate classrooms that are known to contain students, there will be 30 Ready, Set, Go Bags distributed. Each bag will have 1 First Aid Kit with bandages, wraps, patches, gauze, safety scissors, and a foil blanket to handle a range of emergency circumstances. Each bag includes two gold baseball caps that will act as identity markers for teachers, paraprofessionals, and employees. Clipboards with school policies and at least two whistles for emergency notification. Each teacher will have access to at least 20 peaceful, calm-down toys in their bag, allowing every student to have a fidget toy, if needed. Each bag will be a drawstring bag to avoid zipper noises and will be purple to match the rest of the teachers and staff at Seminole Heights Elementary. To ensure freshness and prevent tampering, each bag will be required to have a plastic self-adhesive covering sealed with one colored dot sticker.
