Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

The Tampa Bay Technical Theatre Department is seeking grant funding to help cover the expenses of attending and performing at the D9 One Act Festival at USF which is a non-ticketed (no income generated) event. The D9 One Act Festival is for registered participants from Hillsborough County Schools, USF Staff Members, and Adjudication Judges that are industry-based professionals (directors, college professors, actors, and professional stage managers). It is not open to the general public due to safety reasons. There are over 600 participants each year! The D9 One Act Festival will be November 29th, November 30th, and December 1st, we will be assigned a performance slot on one of those three days. We attend all three days, but only perform on one.

What will be done with my students

The District 9 One Act Festival allows our students to both perform and attend theatrical productions at the University of South Florida. As a Title 1 School many of our students have never seen a play, much less participated in one. This experience allows our students to build life long memories, while learning the foundations of performance and ensemble work.

Benefits to my students

The Tampa Bay Technical High School Theatre Department will stage Pippin at the University of South Florida for over 600 students from across the district. These funds will provide an opportunity for our students that is both educational and personal as it will provide them with a chance to visit a college, see theatre productions for the first time, and gain the skill set to put on their own performance that they can be recognized for, at both the district and state level.

Budget Narrative

Rights and Royalties for this production are $1475.00, which will be paid to Music Theatre International. The Troupe Registration is $50.00 to be paid to D9 Thespians. The cost of the Uhaul to move the set to USF is roughly $150.00 based on mileage and gas and will be paid to Uhaul. I have included the Music Theatre International web link below.
https://www.mtishows.com/
The entire event will cost quite a bit more as there is a registration fee for students, as well as costumes and set pieces. The registration fee for students is $35.00 per student, the total for 26 students comes to 910 dollars. The fee for chaperones is $20 per chaperone we typically have 2 additional chaperones for a total of 40 dollars. There is also the cost of the set and the costumes which typically averages about $1000. This amount in addition to the $1675 we are asking for assistance with, brings our grand total to $3625.

We will fundraise for this production by putting on the show at our campus, however, due to the fact that we are a magnet school and not a neighborhood school we struggle to sell tickets as many of our students and families live over an hour away from our campus, and many of our students and families qualify for free and reduced lunch. Our typical audience size is 50 people, at $10 a ticket this only equates to $500 per performance. We plan to put on two performances at the school which should raise $1000. However, our problem is magnified by the fact that we are still charged for rights and royalties for our non-ticketed competition show.

Students will contribute to their registration fees; however, we often have to pay for the registration of several of our low income and in need students. In the past we have partnered with our PTSA to help any students who need assistance that we do not have the funds to assist. Several of our faculty members have also sponsored students in the past.
