Goal

To prepare young Pinellas county students for industry-standard filmmaking techniques, screenwriting, audio design and editing techniques, utilizing the Adobe platform. We need money for new cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, and the multitude of materials needed to put on a production.

What will be done with my students

My students go through preparation when it comes to outlining concepts, proper script formatting, storyboarding, pre-production breakdowns, lighting, grip equipment, camera operations, digital video, and post-production operations. New students are fully immersed in small group projects, critical analysis and the creation of short videos. Overtime, they work on larger projects (including our senior film), developing their style while finding what aspect best suits their abilities and interests. By the time they leave, they are ready to enter the workforce or higher education for their particular field.

Benefits to my students

Students learn how to express themselves through the medium of video, and they learn how to work as a group in order to achieve a shared goal. By the end, students will have a stronger grasp on narrative, the visual language of cinema, and will be empowered to express their ideas through visual storytelling. With your grant, we can keep them up to date by introducing them to 4K video production, utilizing modern technology and filmmaking tools so they are able to compete in a rapidly changing industry.

Describe the Students

My students are amazing. They have chosen to come to our school (sometimes travelling daily over hour-long bus rides) to learn these crafts, and because of that they come ready to educate themselves. I'm more of a facilitator, providing them the tools and assistance as they discover the medium. They're the hardest working kids I've ever seen, and judging by last year's performance with 'Sanatorium,' I believe we're only going to see more and more amazing things from my students.

Budget Narrative

This would provide the program with three new 4K capable video cameras and lenses, and will improve their chances of being seen at film festivals, win awards, and gain recognition from local production companies or academic institutions.
