Goal

The goal of this grant is to increase student motivation, encourage students to be at school every day ready and on-time, and to provide additional support for students through the use of incentives, rewards, and organizational supplies. The goal is to increase student performance in reading, math, and science and to have fewer absences.

What will be done with my students

I currently teach in a Title 1 Transformation school. I am a departmentalized teacher, teaching two classes of second grade students in both science and math. My classrooms are very diverse and include migrant students, as well as, ESE students. Many students that attend my school lack motivation to complete their work in class or to try to do their homework for many reasons. Some reasons include having difficulty focusing, being hungry, and just not being motivated. This grant will provide my students with rewards and incentives to motivate them to want to engage in the learning in school and at home. It will also support students who struggle with maintaining focus in class and who are hungry. Through motivation and support attendance will improve and all students will show growth in both math, science and even reading (if their attendance improves, they will receive more instruction in all subjects. Students will also learn to track their progress through the use of individual data folders. They will set their goals and track their growth through supplies purchased through this grant.

Benefits to my students

Students will show one year's growth in both math and science. By teaching to the best of my ability, and through support and motivation my students will receive from this grant, I expect to close the gaps in learning and see student growth by ALL students in both of my classes. I also expect attendance to improve from last year's average attendance.

Budget Narrative

The snacks are for students who miss breakfast or who are hungry during the day. The fidget toys are to help students regain focus. The pencil holders are to go on student desks so they always have a pencil ready to write. The envelopes are for homework to go back and forth from school and home. Many students just shove their homework into their backpack and it gets lost. This is to prevent that from happening. The magnetic clips are to display student work throughout the year so they take ownership and are proud of their work. The plastic folders are for students to keep track of their math and science data throughout the year to help motivate them to grow in both subjects. The jumbo pencils and pens, eraser tops, scented stickers will be used as incentives/rewards for students engaged in learning, doing their very best and will go with the punch cards which will be turned in for the rewards. The punch cards will be used for turning in homework, attendance, and being engaged in learning. Some of the items such as the magnetic clips, pencil holders, fidget toys, and jumbo pens and pencils will be used again in the future as they are non-consumable.
