Goal

We will create a space for students to celebrate when they meet their team goals.

What will be done with my students

Students will be taught goal setting with the Four Disciplines model (4DX) from Leader in Me.
Students will (1) set a goal.
Students will (2) develop and act on lead measures.
Students will (3) create a compelling scoreboard.
Students will (4) meet and talk about accountability as they strive toward goals.
When students meet their goals, they will celebrate in the Student Celebration Suite, which would be created from this grant being fulfilled.

Benefits to my students

Students will learn the value of setting and meeting goals.

Goals set will include academic and personal goals. Goals will be set as individuals, classes, grade levels and school-wide teams.

When students are rewarded with time in the Celebration Suite as a class, teachers will guide them to reflect on their accomplishments, and sharpen their mind, body, heart and spirit. By investing this time to sharpen their saw*, students will be motivated to start setting their next goals.

All students (K-5) will be able to earn the Celebration Suite at any time throughout the school year. Our school currently has 4 empty classrooms. We plan to utilize one of these empty rooms with this space. Parents, Teachers and Students will synergize to make the space a great place to come and celebrate.

Not sure what "Sharpen the Saw" means? Read this from Leader in Me:

Imagine you are going for a walk in the forest when you come upon a man sawing down a tree.
“What are you doing?” you ask. “I’m sawing down a tree,” he says.
“How long have you been at it?” You ask.
“Two or three hours so far,” he says, sweat dripping from his chin.
“Your saw looks dull,” you say. “Why don’t you take a break and sharpen it?”
“I can’t. I’m too busy sawing,” is his reply.

As an outsider, we could see that the process of cutting was dulling the blade. And the duller the blade, the greater the effort that is required to keep sawing. The solution, of course, was for the woodcutter to stop periodically to sharpen the saw. He was so engrossed in the situation he couldn’t see the need to take a break and do what was necessary to make his job easier.

Habit 7 teaches us to take the time to stop and “sharpen our saw.” “Sharpening the Saw” is synonymous with “self-care” or “self-renewal.”
