Goal

To equip students with real world police utility equipment to perform required curriculum tasks in class. Per the State of Florida Department of Education standards and Benchmarks for Criminal Justice Operations 2 10.02 Describe and demonstrate the use of the radio, 13.02 Describe and demonstrate interviewing a person, 13.03 Describe and demonstrate accurate note taking, 15.04 Describe and demonstrate stop and frisk as it relates to Terry v. Ohio, 15.07 Describe and demonstrate making a physical custody arrest.  

What will be done with my students

Per the State of Florida Department of Education standards and Benchmarks for Criminal Justice Operations 2 10.02 students are required to Describe and demonstrate the use of the radio, 13.02 Describe and demonstrate interviewing a person, 13.03 Describe and demonstrate accurate note taking, 15.04 Describe and demonstrate stop and frisk as it relates to Terry v. Ohio, 15.07 Describe and demonstrate making a physical custody arrest.

The equipment requested will help assure the students are able to meet these standards and benchmarks.

These standard and benchmarks assure the students are performing tasks similar to Police Officers in the real world. This includes Conducting traffic stops, Ticket writing, traffic direction building searches, report writing, radio communication and arrest scenarios. To properly perform these tasks students need to have specific equipment that make it possible. The Atlantic HS Academy of Law and Government as required, is a member of the Florida Public Service Association. Two times a year the FPSA has conferences and competitions and some of these competitions are for Traffic Stops, Ticket writing, Arrest procedures, Felony Stops and proper use of Force Techniques. Students are required to bring their own Equipment and this equipment will assist the students during these competitions.  

Benefits to my students

This equipment will give the students real world experience in using industry standard equipment to perform CJ-2 tasks as required per the curriculum. for example in the past the students had to put their handcuffs in their pockets or hold them in their hands as the made contact with suspects. This will make the scenarios for realistic and thus provide a better educational experience to the students. As mentioned above, The Atlantic HS Academy of Law and Government as required, is a member of the Florida Public Service Association.
