Goal

Printmaking art is an amazingly fun and relaxing way to create photographs like it was in the year 1550. My students can explore their creativity by making a print using this ancient art form and add to their technique arsenal. Not only is it culturally important for my students to learn about printmaking but it can create vivid art and repeatable prints. The students learn through standard VA.912.S.3.12 - Develop competence and dexterity, through practice, in the use of processes, tools, and techniques for various media. This grant provides the material to experiment with printmaking and show diversity in the portfolio. 

What will be done with my students

In my classroom, I have a printing press to transfer designs and illustrations onto a variety of surfaces. If this proposal is awarded, I can introduce my students to the art of printmaking. Each year I offer one new technique to my art class so that by the end of four years of high school, my students have a diverse art portfolio. The school has 67% of the students on free or reduced meals. My students have a hard time bringing in extra supplies in order to utilize the printing press without the supplies being available in the classroom. The end results will allow the student to show originality, creativity, and knowledge of techniques and materials in their portfolio. 

Benefits to my students

The expected outcome is that our students learn new techniques for art making using the printing press process. It provides my students with the ability to learn how to mix different media together and what the printing press has to offer. It allows my students to have a more diverse art portfolio.
