Goal

To assist 18-22 year old ESE Transitional Students in daily living including food prep, storage and meal preparation.

What will be done with my students

By purchasing a full size refrigerator with a freezer for in class use we can train to store food in order to prepare their own meals. Right now there is a small refrigerator with no freezer that does not suit our needs. these ESE students have capabilities beyond their current levels and as we teach them daily basics they will be able to carry these skills into their adult life. While they learn food storage and preparation they will gain independence both at school and at home. The current set-up does not meet basic needs.

Benefits to my students

Gain basic life skills in the kitchen, learn how to pack food for refrigerator and freezer storage, understand how to unpack food for preparation and cooking, eventually gain cooking skills through purchase of a stove and oven. For now a countertop toster oven will be used. Have certain days where each ESE Transition student makes food for the class and utilize kitchen utensils, stove, oven and toaster oven.

Understanding of food preparation is a skill we take for granted and yet is a basic need for all adults. Having the correct tools in class will equate to success upon leaving the Center.
