Goal
Cover bright fluorescent lights with calming, blue, light diffusing panels in 4 self-contained ESE classrooms.
What will be done with my students
ESE students in self-contained Access Points classrooms can become fatigued by harsh overhead fluorescent lights. These blue light covers help to diffuse and soften the harsh lighting, creating a calmer atmosphere for learning. Many of our students have autism and the sensory stimulation from the bright lights can be overwhelming, triggering behavior problems. Turning the lights off makes the room too dark for learning activities, so light diffusing panels will tone down the harsh brightness but still allow plenty of light for classroom learning.
Benefits to my students
Calmer classroom environment, increased time on task, reduced interruptions due to negative behaviors, increased student compliance.
Budget Narrative
This grant application is for 16 sets of blue light covers (4/pack). This is enough to cover the lights in the four separate Access Points classrooms at our school.
