Goal

To provide a tangible incentive for student to work towards who have significant social, environmental, and behavioral challenges in order to increase prosocial and positive work behaviors.

What will be done with my students

The project models real world experiences by provided Simmons ESE "bucks" for positive work/behavior. Students learn that positive outcomes in the work place (school) can lead to a "monetary" reward (Simmons ESE bucks), which can be exchanged for tangible "wants" (school store). These student who have numerous challenges in their lives will have the opportunity to earn items that they have identified a preferred items of interest. Once a month the students will visit the school store to spend their Simmons bucks on these items. The first store visit will occur at the end of August and continue throughout the school year. The plan is to continue this program over the course of the next several years, if sufficient funding can be maintained. Currently, all funding has been provided by teachers and staff of the program.

Benefits to my students

It is expected that the number of negative student behaviors will decline while the number of work tasks and positive behaviors will increase. These behaviors are tracked through daily point sheets, making data readily available. This project will help twenty-four of the neediest students have a clear pathway for rewards and incentives to change. Up to four classrooms will benefit from this program including up to 8 paraprofessionals and 4 teachers.

Budget Narrative

The total cost represent the estimated amount to supply the store for 1 academic year. This was based on costs from Amazon and rounded to the nearest dollar. The items will be valued in the school school based on real world value to model real world systems.
