Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

My goal is to receive a grant to purchase the IXL learning program to provide access to ESE (autistic, intellectual disability, other health impaired, and specific learning disabled) students. This program will benefit these students at school or at home for extra practice. This is a supplemental program that follows along with the Florida State Standards.
Liberty Middle School is 63% free and reduced lunch, however our school has not been labeled a Title 1 yet. We are in the process of getting that.

What will be done with my students

This school year we are a 1 to 1 school. This means every student will have access to a laptop during a class period. I fell in love with this program and found that this program can help connect with students who are visual learners and who learn best by doing, especially the computer. This program would help out the students who also have trouble focusing in class and can visually pay attention to the computer. Other students need scaffolding in certain subject areas. In order to teach students, you have to make learning engaging, fun and have real world connections. This program does all of that. IXL has science, math, reading, language arts and social studies at their finger tips.
Teachers can track how the students are doing and the teacher can see if the student needs to decrease or increase their performance level. If a student gets more than a few wrong, the questions become easier until they accomplish that strand. Then, it will gradually get harder. They play videos, show pictures and have explanations of the how and why the answers come about.
IXL also comes with games, test prep questions and awards for kids who pass different levels. This program benefits the ESE population and would really make a difference in their learning environment.

Benefits to my students

The expected outcome is to make learning more engaging and fun, while learning. District tests and state tests are also computer based and this will help students navigate through testing purposes.
I have used this program before and I was able to measure my students growth, talk to parents about the growth, and write IEP's easier. The IXL program can scaffold back a subject and help students pick up the gaps in the learning gains. IXL can improve student outcomes.

Budget Narrative
