Goal

The goal of this project is to fund the implementation of a new Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) System at Westchase Elementary. This project will benefit ALL students and staff at our school by providing them with supplemental character education resources, social and emotional learning books, school wide expectations signage, positive reinforcement rewards, and activities that students can earn for positive behaviors!

What will be done with my students

There are 3 parts to our PBIS plan that will benefit the students schoolwide.

The first part is schoolwide positive expectations. In every single setting, the students will be expected to follow three important expectations: Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Responsible. The expectations are then broken down to very specific ways to show kindness, safety, and responsibility in various setting around the school. We would like to post signage around the school in those settings to give students a visual reminder of what positive behavior looks like.

The second part is character education, We will be teaching monthly character education lessons. These lessons are differentiated to successfully teach students how to exhibit those character traits. At the end of each month, the students will vote on a fellow classmate that has show the monthly trait. The students that get the most votes from each class get to attend a special award breakfast with their parents and our administration to be recognized for all their hard work.

The third part of our plan is positive reinforcement! The students will receive daily positive reinforcement for desired behaviors through "Wizard Bucks" and items in our "Awesome Boxes" (like a treasure box filled with small toys). They will then turn those Wizard Bucks into weekly and monthly rewards. At the end of the quarter all students that earn 100 Wizard Bucks or more will be invited to the "Wizard Buck Bash". This is a fun filled afternoon where the whole school stops to celebrate by having different activities for students to choose from in every classroom schoolwide! Students that do not make the Wizard Buck Bash will participate in a lesson about goal setting and making good choices to help them plan ways to earn the next quarter's celebration.

Benefits to my students

The expected outcome of this plan is to create a positive and safe environment for all students to learn and grow academically, emotionally, and socially. When undesired behaviors are decreased through positive reinforcement, instructional time increases. This helps to spend more time teaching and less time redirecting behaviors.

From what we see happening in schools today, it is more important than ever to teach students appropriate ways to express their emotions. Mental health is at the utmost importance and this program will help to address those needs.

This is a schoolwide intuitive that will benefit all 1,000 students and 70 teachers at Westchase. Please consider helping us make this program as successful as possible by contributing to the materials that teacher will otherwise have to purchase themselves.
