Goal

The goal for my project is to provide students in my classroom with seating that is comfortable and conducive for their learning. To reach this, I am hoping to gather different seating types, and work space materials to create this environment.

What will be done with my students

This project will benefit the students in many ways. This project will take place over the course of a full school year. As the year goes on, more seating options will be available to the students, inviting them to test new learning types. Being in elementary school, a big goal as a teacher is getting students to understand a community and social emotional learning. This project will benefit these goals because it creates a system in which students must understand each other’s learning differences and styles, as well as puts them in decision making processes continuously. This would be something I would continue to implement year after year.

Benefits to my students

Some expected outcomes include:
1- Students understanding the ways in which the learn best, wether that is standing, bouncing, sitting on the floor, or the traditional school desk setting.

2- Students understand the importance of choicing a learning spot that supports their learning and focusing on that and not where they can sit closest to their friends.

3- Students participate in compromises and problem solving when others want the same seat as them.

4- Other options of learning spaces besides sitting at a desk increase oxygen to the brain, blood flow, and core strength, all benefitting learning and physical capability.

5- Many students at my school feel uncomfortable at school. They feel they do not belong due to their level or their socio-economic status. This would help make them feel more comfortable in their environment.
