Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

The Middle School Math track for 8th grade placement in Algebra is dependent on achieving a Level 3 or higher on the prior year's Math FSA. Most students that qualify are on the accelerated track and take Pre-Algebra as 7th graders. However, some students are on the regular track and qualify by making above average gains, but lack the Pre-Algebra foundation and therefore require more supports to ensure success.

Goal

The Middle School Math track for 8th grade placement in Algebra is dependent on achieving a Level 3 or higher on the prior year's Math FSA. However, some students are on the regular track and qualify by making above average gains, but lack the Pre-Algebra foundation and therefore require more supports to ensure success.

What will be done with my students

The Prisms VR vision is to close the STEM participation and achievement gap by rapidly improving engagement, retention, and proficiency in math (and science). They seek to achieve this goal with experiential learning- learning through seeing, moving, touching, perceiving, and solving real-world math problems.

Benefits to my students

Prisms helps accelerate learning and boost interest in an engaging and delightful way, while adhering to math standards.

In the 2021-2022 school year, 33% of 7th Grade students on the regular track made the growth necessary to catapult them into Algebra for 8th grade. I want to help support their confidence and math fluency so they can be successful in Algebra as measured by attitudes about math and proficiency on the Algebra End of Course Exam.

Budget Narrative

The grant will support the cost of 6 Virtual Reality Headsets and 17 licenses for the PrismsVR Algebra course.
