Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

I teach seniors who are still working towards their literacy graduation benchmark requirement. The project goal is to prepare these seniors with testing bags for each of their SAT, ACT, and the new FAST testing opportunities. I would also like to provide them with a hot breakfast during our extended time school day testing for SAT and ACT.

Goal

I teach seniors who are still working towards their literacy graduation benchmark requirement. The project goal is to prepare these seniors with testing bags for each of their SAT, ACT, and the new FAST testing opportunities. I would also like to provide them with a hot breakfast during our extended time school day testing for SAT and ACT.

What will be done with my students

The students that I have the opportunity to motivate and prepare for SAT/ACT/FAST testing are students that have historically been met with testing failures throughout their academic career. They are all making a conscious effort to continue with their academic journey even though they are still fighting to earn their tenth grade literacy benchmark requirement to graduate. I would like to send them into their testing sessions with a hot breakfast, peppermint gum to keep their brain activated, dark chocolate granola bars to have between sessions, bottled water, and personalized pencils. We have approximately 120 seniors that will be in this course starting the year. They will all take at least one school day SAT and ACT and will be offered the opportunity to take two SAT and ACT on Saturdays. The students who pass one or more of these opportunities by end of the first semester will be transferred to another class while we continue to work towards this goal with the remaining students second semester. These students will have another SAT and ACT testing opportunities during the school day and multiple Saturday opportunities. Motivation is key with their success. This token of care can help be that extra piece to keep them going and pushing beyond their limits to finally reaching that academic success and putting them one huge step closer to walking across the stage earning their high school diploma.

Benefits to my students

The expected outcome is that we will be celebrating them all passing one or more of their testing opportunities. That these students will finally be able to believe in their academic journey and knowledge that they have been able to prove to themselves that they are good enough. That we will be opening the door for their futures and building a stronger community both inside our school but beyond as they move into our workforce as our newest adult community members. I tell them that it is not a matter of IF but a matter of WHEN. With this support, I hope to help them see that they have a community of support that believe in them and their brilliance.
