Goal

The more text options that kids have they more likely they are to become proficient readers. The goal of this project is to provide our 5th grade students with their own individual copies of Storyworks magazine from Scholastic.  

What will be done with my students

The project will provide an additional text option to use for small-group instruction and for independent reading time. Each magazine includes multiple genres of text (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc) so the teacher and students will have a plethora of choices to read each time a new magazine arrives. The texts also have online components that allow for additional interaction and support. Additionally the magazines arrive with teacher lessons plans that align to the standards so we can ensure the students are hitting crucial skills needed to be successful.  

Benefits to my students

At least two, hopefully three, 5th grade teachers and a total of 125 students will benefit from this request. By using the Storyworks magazines, we will see an increase in the data on the various assessments used throughout the year.  

Budget Narrative

125 students x 8.49 per student copy +10% shipping and handling.
