Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

To provide students at this school with new incentives and awards for their high achievements in the ALEKS program we use district wide for math. I want to be able to motivate students to use this program like they never have before. As a new math coach, I am creating a friendly competition for students and teachers so that they use this program to its utmost potential. The more students use this program to fill in the gaps of learning, the more likely they are to perform well on their assessments.

Goal

To provide students at this school with new incentives and awards for their high achievements in the ALEKS program we use district wide for math. I want to be able to motivate students to use this program like they never have before. As a new math coach, I am creating a friendly competition for students and teachers so that they use this program to its utmost potential. The more students use this program to fill in the gaps of learning, the more likely they are to perform well on their assessments.

What will be done with my students

A football field poster with the school mascot was created to track the class average pie progress goals (what we use to show achievement in the lessons mastered for students) for every math teacher to hang in their classroom. Averages will be tracked monthly/quarterly in all classrooms and the class in each course with the highest percentages, will receive rewards using these funds. There are 9 courses total in middle school that this was split into, so the top 9 classes with the highest averages at the end of the quarter will receive the rewards. This all creates a positive culture and something to look forward to on both the teachers and students part schoolwide. The winners will be aired on the announcements to promote the competition.
Also, the funds will be used to purchase manipulatives and activities that students will use when I pull them in small groups. As a math coach, I don't get any funds and would like the money to purchase manipulatives/activities/equipment that teachers can't use in a classroom, but that I could in a small group to teach them in a different way.

Benefits to my students

The aleks incentives/awards will motivate students to achieve mastery on the aleks program. This will help students in their weakest areas become stronger and to build that foundation in math so that they can be successful in their grade level. The more a student works in this program, the better they perform on all their assessments as the data in the past proves. The manipulatives would help the small group of students in the bottom 25% of the school to learn in ways that are different from their classroom teacher. It would help to differentiate the instruction and learn in a fun way to master the concepts. Students will look forward to getting the extra support where I can truly tailor their learning to the individuals' needs.

Budget Narrative

This is an estimated cost of $2000 as it depends on the number of students in each class that win the competition for the quarter.
