Goal

My goal is to provide my in person students with computers in order for them to participate simultaneously with my virtual students from home on interactive digital lessons like Nearpods. It will also give them the opportunity to partner up with a student from home and collaborate on work by being able to see and talk to each other.

What will be done with my students

I am a simultaneous teacher, which means I am teaching 10 students in person daily along with 8 students virtually each day at the same time. Due to social distancing and other new safety guidelines, we have had to get very creative with our learning. I currently have one computer in my classroom and that is the one I am using for instruction. If I could purchase 9 or 10 Dell laptops, I could then have students from home and in class interactively participate together on the same assignments. This would provide a much more collaborative learning experience for all students. I would also be able to partner up one virtual student with one in person student so they would be able to see and talk to each other about learning targets we are working on. This would help connect our students as a family even more and encourage more conversations at a safe distance. All of our computers were distributed in the Spring and we have none left.

Benefits to my students

Having classroom laptops would open a whole new world to both sets of students in my class. They would be able to partner up with students from home and collaborate on work. It would connect them to one another and give them a personal connection to each other. Between masks and distancing, it can hinder student's ability to hear clearly what I am teaching. Having more computers would really even the playing field for students in person.

Describe the Students

I have 18 students in 3rd grade. I have 2 ESE students, 4 gifted students, and a mixture of all academic levels.

Budget Narrative

Money would be used for Dell Laptop computers in the classroom with 3rd grade students.
