Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Our goal is to raise $25 per costume for a school that has no costumes whatsoever besides tulle tutus. Why? Because we’re a Title 1 school with an 84.4% Free Lunch rate. Tutus we can make for about $3.00- so that’s all we’ve ever had. Costuming beyond that has been out of our range of possibilities. Creative costuming would help us meet goals and Florida Standards like the ones mentioned below, and we especially like the part about stimulating the imagination and encouraging creative risk taking! We can’t wait to see the delight and awe on the faces of these children when we show them REAL costumes!

What will be done with my students

Thinking in terms of theatre and cinema arts, Muller is the perfect place to test out how the clothes one wears affects performance and character. As a magnet school which addresses Performance and Visual Arts, Muller Elementary desires to outfit its special events participants with costumes on performance days for events such as Leadership Day and Veterans Day and ALL of our dance events! Indeed, clothing choice has the power to affect mood and performance. A University of Queensland study found that people dress how they would like to feel, or be perceived as feeling. Along this line, Muller imagines that costumes will enrich its events where performers would radiate confidence, pride and accomplishment..
Muller’s goal to instill a sense of self-worth and achievement in its students and faculty, needs financial assistance to materialize. Therefore, we are asking for your support in preparing this generation to embody and visualize success!

Benefits to my students

63 costumes will thrill 63 children beyond their wildest dreams...but it won’t just end with that number!
63 children will dance in front of 390 children! Twirling and showing off their new fashion with pride and creative movements. Those children will soon wish to be a part of something so special and new! More children will request electives in dance and hope to get sought-after spots in our performances - further strengthening and stimulating our dance program!

Another expected outcome will be to meet and exceed the K-5 Sunshine State Standards for Dance, as detailed below.

Critical Thinking and Reflection
Cognition and reflection are required to appreciate, interpret, and create with artistic intent.

Skills, Techniques, and Processes
The arts are inherently experiential and actively engage learners in the processes of creating, interpreting, and responding to art.

Organizational Structure
Understanding the organizational structure of an art form provides a foundation for appreciation of artistic works and respect for the creative process.

Historical and Global Connections
Through study in the arts, we learn about and honor others and the worlds in which they live(d).

Innovation, Technology, and the Future
Creating, interpreting, and responding in the arts stimulate the imagination and encourage innovation and creative risk-taking.
