Goal

The goal of this request is to increase positive student behavior through tangible reward systems, which ultimately leads to increased learning time for the students.

What will be done with my students

Items requested will be used for the school and classroom stores, which reward students weekly for achieving behavior goals. Students accumulate "points" daily, which are then used to trade for tangible items from the class or school store. These items are motivators for students and have shown to have a large impact on improving student behavior.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of using these items is an increase in positive behavior and a decrease in unwanted behavior among the student population. When unwanted behaviors are decreased, students are in class and more engaged, therefore gaining more learning through instruction. Students are excited to work toward a tangible goal and are proud when he/she accomplishes their goal. This program is a large part of our school's Positive Behavior Support System, as it is a proven motivator for the students.

Describe the Students

Our school is a Center School for students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. The school focuses not only on academic instruction, but also behavior modification. The goal is to improve student behavior so that the student can return to a general education setting. Our students are in the Highest Poverty Area, with all students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Many students are housed in group homes and many of our other students reside in unstable home environments. The vast majority of students are low performers as a result of multiple factors including their disabilit(ies).

Budget Narrative

A variety of token items such as small toys, snacks, activities, games, footballs, and basketballs are needed for the class and school store to provide rewards for students exhibiting positive behaviors.
