Goal

To receive a grant to improve the overall elective programs of Auto Detailing and Bike Repair so that students will be able to experience the benefit of paying it forward while learning various career paths that will also enhance their overall academic and behavior success to transition back to the home schools and learn about community business features that will show them different areas of job growth in their neighborhoods.

What will be done with my students

The students are currently learning career and leadership skills through the Elective program at Pine Ridge. The students participate in Auto Detailing to learn about quality of work, management skills and improve their communication skills by learning how to talk to other people professionally. They also learn the basics of small business and how this affects their local economies. In the area of bike repair they take donated bikes from the BSO and learn how to fix bikes in order to give back to the community by donating to charitable organizations. The grant will continue to fund the program since it relies on program dollars and not school funding.

Benefits to my students

The benefit to these students will be the learning experience of how small business works within their communities. By paying it forward to other local agencies and children they can learn how important it is to work with their neighborhoods in order to improve their academic and behavior goals in transitioning back to their home schools. Many students here at our school lack the academic and behavior traits that other students have and can learn firsthand with their families how important it is to develop their skills which improves their academic success.

Budget Narrative

By providing these items the elective program can continue to function and teach students the importance of working and how it affects the local economy and also guide their math, reading and science skills with technology and real world applications.
