Goal

Students will master the DSM-V topics and various disroders and symptoms of said disorder by having classroom and planning set of DSM-V that are current and prevailing psychological disorder guide and activities, such as case studies.

What will be done with my students

I have used the DSM-IV, now outdated, for a variety of activities for AP Psychology. Some of the activities include classification of disorders; multiple case studies evaluation; discussion of disorders in adults versus children, men versus woman, across cultural lines; and more. As well, papers and projects will be completed after the AP Psychology exam using the books as well.

Because the versions I have of the texts are outdated and per the College Board, the AP Psychology Exam this year will refer to the DSM V, I know these new guides will assist this year and in years to come!

Benefits to my students

With the change of the DSM-IV to the DSM-V, using the former guide and materials will result in outdated activity and information to students. Starting 2014-2015, College Board made the decision, "Beginning with the 2015 AP Psychology Exam, all terminology, criteria and classifications referred to among multiple-choice and free-response items will adhere to the new fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5)." Having these auxiliary materials will help to make the AP Psychology classroom materials up-to-date, and therefore, increase the chance of high scores and overall pass rates for students.
