Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

The goal of this project is to modernize and enhance our student-led morning news program by integrating computer imaging, digital graphics, music production, and other multimedia tools. This initiative aims to increase student engagement, improve digital literacy, and develop communication and technical skills that are essential for success in both academic and future career settings.

Currently, our newsroom operates with outdated equipment that limits creativity and technical capabilities. By updating our system, we will empower students to produce higher-quality broadcasts that reflect 21st-century media standards. Our objectives include:
- Increasing student proficiency in digital media tools (video editing, sound mixing, graphic design)
- Enhancing student collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership through real-world media production tasks
- Expanding cross-curricular connections by integrating language arts, visual arts, and technology standards

This project supports student achievement by providing a hands-on learning environment where students apply skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and technology to create daily, high-impact content for their school community.

What will be done with my students

Throughout the 2025–2026 school year, students will be responsible for the daily production and delivery of the school’s morning news broadcast. This includes all aspects of the production process from visual design to audio mixing and live broadcasting. The focus of the project is to enhance this existing program by equipping students with updated tools and technologies that allow for more engaging and professional-quality content.
Rather than producing a one-time project, students will demonstrate mastery by consistently delivering high-quality news broadcasts that incorporate the updated technology and media tools. Their growth will be evident in the professionalism, creativity, and technical proficiency displayed over time.

Benefits to my students

This project will enhance student achievement in multiple measurable ways:
- Academic Gains: Students will apply ELA standards (writing, speaking, listening) in authentic settings, which supports gains in literacy and communication.
- Digital Fluency: Mastery of media tools will prepare students for future coursework and career paths in media, technology, and communications.
- Social-Emotional Growth: Students will develop confidence, leadership, and collaborative skills through role rotation and peer feedback.

Budget Narrative

This grant will fund essential upgrades to our student-run morning news program through the purchase of the following items:

Blackmagic Converter: This device will allow us to connect professional-grade video and audio equipment to our broadcast system, ensuring a clean, high-quality signal throughout our production. It will improve the reliability and visual quality of our daily news segments, providing students with a more professional and realistic broadcasting experience.

Blackmagic ATEM Mini: This video switcher will be the central hub of our broadcast system, allowing students to transition between multiple video sources, integrate live feeds, add picture-in-picture effects, and incorporate real-time graphics. This hands-on tool will significantly enhance the technical skills of our students by introducing them to industry-standard live production workflows, while also elevating the quality and engagement of our school’s news broadcasts.

ProPresenter Annual Subscription: ProPresenter is a dynamic presentation software that enables the integration of custom graphics, animated titles, timers, lower-thirds, announcements, and more into our live broadcasts. With this tool, students can design and manage professional-grade visual content, gaining valuable experience in media design, timing, and production management. This subscription ensures our broadcasts remain visually engaging, polished, and adaptable to our school’s evolving needs.

Together, these tools will transform our basic morning news setup into a modern, interactive, and media-rich production space. By equipping students with professional-grade tools, we support the project’s goal of improving digital literacy, communication skills, and media production proficiency, all of which contribute directly to student engagement and academic achievement.
